Welcome to the brand new feature on Digital Photo Mentor – the photography challenge!
You may have participated in photography challenges on other sites. The ones here are going to be a little bit different and challenge you in new ways. You will not have a theme or topic to go photograph and make nice photos. There are tons of challenges out there for that including the ones I post weekly over on Digital Photography School.
Outside the box challenges
No, these challenges will push you to get outside of your normal comfort zone and stretch your boundaries a little bit. They may even push your buttons and cause you to feel anxious. That is the idea! Only by doing something new, and sometimes uncomfortable will you achieve real growth.
How does it work?
Challenges will come on a monthly basis and will be different each time. So you will have plenty of time to work on one challenge, before the next one starts. There may be prizes if applicable, and I will ask you to share your results with us and others doing the challenge in the comments.
This month’s challenge – showcase your best images
Okay, before you start saying things like this:
- But I’m not a professional I don’t need to have an online portfolio or gallery
- No one wants to see my photos
- I’m not good enough
- I can’t afford it
Let me explain how this can help you move your photography to the next level, also how it can be quite affordable (even some free options)
#1 Sharing your work helps build confidence
When you start sharing your images with others you may find you start getting compliments and good feedback, perhaps you didn’t expect. This helps build confidence when other people tell you they like something you’ve created. That is never a bad thing. You don’t want to get a big ego and go crazy about getting praise but if you never show your work, how will you know you’re on the right track?
#2 Track your own growth
By putting images online and creating a gallery of your favorite images from each year you will be able to look back and see how much progress you’ve made. Sometimes it can feel like you’re just stuck and you’ll never get any better, when in reality you already have gone leaps and bounds from where you started. Only by comparing to your own work from the past can you see your own improvement.
#3 Helps you be more selective and take better photos
This one is two-fold. Putting your work online helps you weed out the rubbish and get to the best of the best, the cream of the crop. You wouldn’t want to share anything but your best work right? So having to pick only 20 images for your main portfolio will really make you think about which are truly your best shots. You may choose to get opinions of others to help you cull the pack as well, but it will force you look at your own work and critique it in an objective way.
This can lead to shooting more selectively as well. You’ll start to think about whether each shot is portfolio worthy or not and you may even stop and think before shooting something where the answer is “no”. Being more intentional and having this mission in sight will help you seek out and take better photos.
#4 Get over fears of not being good enough
I can’t tell you how many of my students have had this fear, even of sharing images in the classroom setting. I can’t conquer this fear for you but I can tell you that most of the time the fears we have in our heads are way stronger, bigger, scarier and harder to overcome than they are in real life. Photographing a stranger is another example and I often challenge my travel photography students to do just that and many come back with stories of “that wasn’t nearly so bad as I had imagined”. The demons in our head play tricks on us and we build it up until it’s almost insurmountable. So sometimes just stepping out past that fear is the only thing that will move us forward and get past it. If this sounds like you – then what are you waiting for? Get working on this challenge!
The challenge – make a 20 image portfolio of your best work
Part one – the first part of this challenge is to pick a platform. There are several free ones you can use including Flickr or 500px, as well as the one I use which is Zenfolio.
Part two – then select your TOP 20 images only – no more, no less – and create your first gallery.
Part three – share a link to your gallery in the comments below so the world can see it!
Take it up a level – the free sites mentioned above are great, but they do have some limitations. I highly recommend Zenfolio because you can do things like:
- Have locked and pass worded galleries and you decide who gets inside. Share your images with everyone, or just select people – you choose.
- Make a slideshow that you can share on your social media sites like Facebook, Pinterest or even by email.
- Customize the look of your gallery with built-in themes.
- You can even have your own blog and write stories or articles which is great for keeping friends and family updated on your journey if you are traveling.
- Sell your images as fine art prints if you’re so inclined.
The contest – win a Zenfolio Premium membership worth $140
Update: Winner Chosen. A winner was chosen and revealed on the next challenge here.
I can’t wait to see your absolute best images!
Cheers,

Thank you Diane. I just took a look at your beautiful photos. I love the penguin and the bare trees in the fog with a few bright red leaves – made me feel like I was there.

Hi Darlene. I signed up for your free E-Book awhile ago and thoroughly enjoy reading your articles. I saw this challenge pop up in my email and decided to take the plunge, and am trying a 14 day Zenfolio trial. Thanks for the inspiration. I am going to sign up for your 4 week course as well.
Ok so I have my 20 Portfolio photos on Zenfolio.http://terryrawcliffe.zenfolio.comSo what happens now
Thanks Darlene to give us that chance . For me it is a way to get out of my comfort zone!

Lise – beautiful and creative and varied work. Loved the feather on the snow with grass and the white bird and trees in reflection in particular.
I’m going to try my share of fame. I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I enjoyed taking them.

Can someone help me please I posted my link for Zenfolio and now it gone. Does it have to be accepted by the someone first or?
I can see this comment Jamie and got your email. I’m not removing anything and I don’t see them in spam. Not sure why it’s not showing up someone else had the problem too. Just email me the link and I’ll add it to your comment manually.
This is a great idea Darlene. I love looking at everyone else’s photos and I am excited to share mine. Thanks.

Hi John – good job – loved the putting the personal on the line. Liked the church against the oh-so-blue background, the dog with the ball and the nature pics.
Thanks Darlene – you read my mind with all the excuses for not doing this but here goes:

Hi Jamie – liked no 2 and 6 in particular. Great vantage point to see the bumblebee…
This is very challenging Darlene, thanks for the encouragement! Here’s my link http://carolineholdstock.zenfolio.com/p331645322
Hi Caroline – looks like we have been to a few of the same locales. Loved your pelicans and Lion.
Jim- Thanks for letting me know, the link didn’t show up on my end I love the owls too, I spent a whole winter photographing them and have hundreds of shots. They were super interesting to study. It’s hard to pick “best images”. I put a bunch of my favorites on from different categories and I thought it would look better with some sort of theme., so changed it to nature/nature’s artistry thematic. The swans are making a strong come-back in our area, I don’t recall ever seeing one as a child. Now I see theme here and there. My favorite new subject as you can probably tell. I was pleased to get some in the morning and the evening. (two different locations)
I have the trial until november 6 so here’s my link 🙂

I overrode my doubt and posted. Thank you for the opportunity. My link is http://www.zenfolio.com/myfirst20
I added my link twice, but it doesn’t show up when I view the conversation. Does it show up for you people?
Not to worry, Laurie — your link is working fine. Love the shots of the owls, and that shot of the swans!
It’s hard to decide on ‘best photos”. I decided to try to stick to a theme.

Hi Laurie, I just love the Autumn Reflections and Transitions images. Thanks for sharing …………
Your photos are fantastic RLBOSTON2014! What a joy to sit with the slideshow on and just enjoy. Those are deer in my one photo. It took a lot of work to get them all to look at me at once!
A lot of people have fantastic images. It was hard to find 20 best ones. I don’t have many really good photos. Need to get out and practice more I guess.
Hope the link works, I’m not used to doing this.

Excellent photos here Peter!
Thank you Lyn, I appreciate that.
Geat photos Anna! The macros of course, but I liked the unique group photo and there’s just something about the composition with the guitar and the gate that just works. It clicks, it’s right, correct and perfect.
Thank you so much 🙂

These are excellent Steve, is that Santorini, Greece?
Hi Lyn,
Thank you. Yes one of the shots is from Santorini. I’m amazed how they have pools on the side of the cliff.
Thanks for encouraging so many of us. I liked your fiery clouds behind the tree.
I accept the challenge.
My 20 best are posted: http://www.corinactus.zenfolio.com
I am already a user of zenfolio so I don’t know if I will be included in the drawing.
I really enjoy the challenge of shooting macro photography but I shoot in other modes as well.
Darlene, thanks for the guidance as I’ve developed my craft. It’s been greatly appreciated and sometimes, much needed.

OK, here’s my October effort: http://rlboston.zenfolio.com/ There are two galleries, ten images each, because I hope to market the winter images this year. I’m trying out different papers, cards, vendors, etc. I have a blog, a massive Flikr acount with 1800 images, an Etsy shop, a blog. I need to integrate my efforts.
I think I submitted the wrong link, here is the correct one: http://terryrawcliffe.zenfolio.com/p847144892. Don’t have 20 yet, I won’t until after Thursday when I get back to my home computer.
Great start Terry, just 10 more to go.
Thanks Lyn. I got in from camp yesterday and finished it off.
Well I took the plunge. Started a free trial on Zenfolio. Just a little nervous. Haven’t completed my total of 20 pictures yet, but there are a couple on there Terry Rawcliffe/ Zenfolio .com

Hi Darlene. I have made some changes – new homepage – http://adrianmaxwell.zenfolio.com
Hi Darlene,
Many thanks for throwing out this challenge. I’ve spent the weekend learning to use Zenfolio and casting a critical eye over my photo collection. Both tasks have been thought provoking but I’m delighted with the results. The web site is only partially built – lots of text and images still to add – but the skeleton is there and it’s given me the impetus to do something more than daydream about sharing my work with a wider audience.
All comments welcome. You’ll find my portfolio selection at: http://bit.ly/1unES2H.
Cheers,
Leonie

Your use of perspective is awesome, Anna. Your macro work is nothing short of mastery!
Thank you! That means a lot 🙂
I am sorry. contest or no contest , win or no win. Darlene I am going ahead with Zenfolio. I can’t wait for the results. The app is so user-friendly and you can get help in setting up in so many ways. I am taking the challenge and going full speed ahead. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for sharing.

Hi Lyn! I am impressed with your landscapes. I realy liked the one of the wood bridge! thanks for sharing! I can realize that, you can see the right moment to take your photos.
Thanks so much for your kind words Luis. Believe it or not, with the photo you mentioned, that lake on the left (called Lake on the Mountain) is high above the lake in the right background. They are separated by a huge cliff.
Dear Lyn, thanks for complimenting on my pics 🙂 i just checked yours as well 🙂 great stuff :))) i am more into portraits but i am amazed by what you do with landscapes.
The owl is a masterpiece – well done. I’ve recently come back from a trip to Norway. Some of your images look familiar. Is that where they were taken? They capture the feel of the place really well.
Thank-you so much Leonie. Your photos are absolutely fabulous, ones I’ll go back to for sure! Most of mine were taken in Newfoundland and a few in Africa and other places.
Lyn, first I like the overall feel of your site and your body of work. There’s a cohesiveness there I like. Your choice of locations and animals works well together. Are those reindeer? The brightly colored boats really pop in the overall subdued tones and it’s pleasant.
Hi Darlene, I haven’t commented in a while, but I have been reading your posts. We exchanged emails a while back, maybe you remember, if you don’t no big deal. I thought I would just get in on this challenge and post some of my photos. I don’t know if I’m improving or not, but here is the link.

Photos are fantastic William!
Thanks Lyn, I really liked your photos. I think you must live in a beautiful place.

I love your photos Peter, thanks for sharing!
Thanks Lyn … you’re shots of Newfoundland are stunning. It’s a beautiful part of the world. The owl is such a part of the tree it would have been easy to miss…
sooooo, I imagine you all set up to take a series of lovely romantic shots of sunrise over a still lake with a photogenic little boat pulled up on the shore, when suddenly a kangaroo sails in from stage left! One of the things I love about photography is the element of chance is always in play. Amateur or pro, cell phone or top of the line equipment, there’s always the possibility of a surprise
On day one I was setting up lovely sunrise shots (I had just finished positioning the canoe) when I heard a splash – by the time I located the source and spun my camera around all I had was a series of blurs! I waited on day 2 better prepared – but he didn’t show … on day 3 it all came together !!!
I’m glad you had the patience to go back on day 3. Thanks much for your kind comment about my photos.
My Link is not showing up…I’ll try again…here it is https://www.flickr.com/photos/golfnutjeano/sets/72157648603657312/
Great photos, I especially love the seagull one, how fun. It reminds me of a situation I was in this summer, but alas, I didn’t have my camera with me.
Thanks for the chance to improve my shots are for my own enjoyment. https://www.flickr.com/photos/golfnutjeano/sets/72157648603657312/ but any help is appreciated.
Hi Darlene , Here is link to my photos. Still dreaming about the DSLR and so have posted photos from my mobile.

Hi Darlene
Thanks so much for this challenge, please see my pics at http://keirwedderburnphotography.zenfolio.com/p441355253 – I am new to DSLR – much to learn.
Well here goes. Like everyone else, thanks for the push. My link is on Flickr:- http://bit.ly/DPM_Photo_Challenge
Wonderful shots Dave, thanks for sharing!
Thanks Lyn. I also had a look at your photos and really like no.1 When I saw the snow shots I thought this has to be Canada, but couldn’t tie in the location using the photo of the boats. Then I saw the Church, where I then Googled Silver Church and sure enough up it popped. Of course had I looked more closely at your photo the first time, I would have seen the Canadian flags 🙂 Nice shots all round.
Thank you so much for this opportunity. I guess this is the time to share. Here’s my showcase link.

I like the sort of “abstract” look of the canyon shot, and I’m jealous of your lunar eclipse shot; mine of last week’s eclipse are not “ready for prime time”
Great photos! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for viewing my collection! I was beginning to think maybe my link didn’t get posted. Funny how my posting appeared in the middle of the discussion.
Your use of light in the landscape images is an inspiration – thank you.
Zeenger, the bokeh with the white shasta daisies? (not sure that’s what they are) is just lovely. My favorite though is the bright reflection of the Ferris Wheel in the water. Excellent!
Hi Darlene . . love reading your site. Here are my 20 selections for October. Regards from the UK. https://www.flickr.com/photos/cdgmorton/sets/72157648703968886/
Nice collection – love the capture of the kids jumping off the pier and the waterfall is beautiful
Many thanks for your comments . . . those kids jumped many times for me in very cold water . they loved it.
I really enjoyed your photos David, thanks!
There are some really awesome photographs here! Here is a link to some of my favorites. I hope you enjoy them. http://cammkirkphotos.zenfolio.com

Hello All. Great pictures. Here is my selection: http://pablonia.zenfolio.com/pabloniasbest20

thank you. maybe it’s because I have been a Sociologist most of my life.
I use a Canon 50D and post process my images in Photo Shop Elements where I’m able to apply adjustments such as spot sharpening, horizon leveling, contrast, etc.
Thanks Joel. Great work!
Thank you Darlene for giving me the opportunity to share some of my shots. Hoping that everybody’s contribution will help me master the art of photography. I am also already thanking all of you for the coming feedback!!!

hi… ok, I’m up for the challenge. I’ve actually picked up photography as another way of artistic expression. I’m a writer, and for a while I felt that I needed an additional art form to express my creativity. I don’t search for beauty when capturing images, but rather for essence, questions, life’s complexities. I don’t yet have a style of my own, still exploring. So here’s my assortment. Hope you enjoy, and thanks for this opportunity. I’ve been putting this gallery together for the past several days. http://throughhereyeskhuludkhamis.zenfolio.com/p16510602
I use both Zenfolio and Flickr. https://www.flickr.com/photos/61200714@N05/sets/72157648683715856/

Hi, Darlene. Have been on your mailng list for a while and enjoyed it very much. Never dared show my photos before so this is a kind of out of the box challenge for me! https://www.flickr.com/photos/127319691@N06/
That was the idea! Great job on getting out of your box!
Brilliant challenge, I’m in 🙂
I don’t have 20 best. But here is what I have:
http://www.markinthehv.com/My-Best-Photos/
Thanks
Mark, you have a beautiful collection of images!
Nice set Mark! Really like the reflection on the lake and the milky way one!
I love your photos Mark, thanks for sharing!
Great timing on the aerials – very crisp!
I have submitted photos via Zenfolio for the contest. you can check johnt13.zenfolio.com
Beautiful images, John; I especially love that most of your images include people, it brings them to life!
thanks.
Hi Darlene! First, I’d like to say thanks for creating this! I have learned so much from your site and I always look forward to reading your posts. Here is the link to my “Top 20 Images”: http://johnjosephphoto.zenfolio.com/p812321115
John, your images are amazing! Very diverse; I’m guessing you like old/abandoned places?! I have a fascination with them, but am not brave enough to venture into any! Thanks for sharing. Helen.
Thank you, Helen! Yes, I do love abandoned places. I think they have so much history and character, a challenge to photograph but a lot of fun too!
Nice set John. I really enjoyed them
Thank you all for your kind words!
breathtaking!
Very nice work! You’ve definitely given me inspiration with some of your photos. Congrats!
Hi JohnnyB53! Love the photos – especially the flowers with the shallow DOF and the abandoned building shot. Was this done using HDR? or asis? Keep ’em comin’
Jon
Thank you, Jon! Some of the abandoned building shots are 5 bracketed shots merged, but others are just one frame. I use the Merge to 32 bit HDR Lightroom plug-in from Photomatix to merge the shots, then just adjust to what I think looks good. I’m not a big fan of grungy, high contrast, super saturated HDR images. It’s the same process that Darlene has written up either on her site or over on DPS…highly recommend it!
Great set of photographs.
Wonderful photography John, thanks for sharing!
Thank you, Lyn. You have some beautiful scenic landscapes in your set, very nice images!
Superb composition!
Thank you so much, Paul!
I think, I am having a few issues with accessing my web page, could anybody tell me if you can access and see the content? Thanks a lot! http://luispurata.zenfolio.com/p711931216
Hi Luis, I have just visited your site, you have lovely images; your portraits are gorgeous! Cheers, Helen.
Thank you very much Helen! I realy appreciate your comment! 🙂
Hi Luis, I’ve just been to see your gallery and especially like the night-time shot and the one of the boats moored at the beach – thank you for sharing.
Luis, great photos, from large to small.
Thanks Camm, I appreciate your comments. And those airplanes photos you posted are incredible!
Many many thanks Darlene for giving me the jab in the ribs that I needed ……

Great collection, Jon! I’d love to visit so many of those places, especially the last one of the man in the woods, it looks beautiful. One thing I thought I’d point out for you, the London Eye image didn’t open for me in 500px, I had to right-click and open it in a new page. Thanks for sharing, Helen.
Thanks Helen – your comments have given me encouragement and are very much appreciated. I have checked out the London Eye photo and it opens OK. Perhaps it was just a one-off glitch at 500px’s end? Thanks again.
Jon
I loved your photo of the prairie (?) sky!
Hi Connie,
The sky is actually above a newly planted corn field – I could not resist taking a picture of those unusual clouds. BTW the corn has grown, been harvested and the field has been ploughed up again since then! Thanks for your comments.
Great photos Jon, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the encouragement to showcase our works! My link is:

My goodness, you live in a beautiful part of the world! I had no idea Central Park was that beautiful, (I’m from Adelaide South Australia, which would probably fit ‘in’ Central Park!). Beautiful collection of images, thanks so much for sharing them, you should be very proud. Helen.
Hello Helen! Thank you so much for your comments as they are greatly appreciated. Have a great day!

Hi Winnie, I felt the same way. I love your portraits, this is something I have not tried my hand at yet, but plan on doing so. I am especially fond of the black and white portraits.
Enjoying looking at everyone’s 20 photos. Here is a link to mine.

Beautiful images, Maya!
Thanks Helen.
Hello Darlene! I follow you here and on the DPS website. I’ll really appreciate your comments about my photos and the comments of everyone. Thanks a lot for encouraging us to emerge from anonymity. http://luispurata.zenfolio.com/p711931216/h0#h309116a4
hello, Luis. I enjoyed looking at your photos. We share a love of taking pictures of birds, but my favorites are the portrait/ reflection in the water, and the lovely girl in purple with the yellow flowers in the background; the complimentary colors seem to frame her beautifully.
OK- going to give it a shot. I think only family have seen anything I have done so far, so here it goes: http://dennisjohnstonphotography.zenfolio.com/
Dennis, these are great! I like the old, rusty ‘couch’ very cool! Helen.
Thanks – that was taken at the end of a fun trip!
Wonderful photography Dennis, thanks for sharing!
https://www.flickr.com/photos/32709363@N02/sets/72157648714463155/ Here is my Challenge Gallery. It is on Flickr because the images were there already.
I’m not a people shooter, but I like your swim coach Romy shot!
Thanks much!
You have a lovely set of images, Duane; I love the house reflecting on the water, and Suzie the Cat, well she is just gorgeous!
Thanks! It took about 20 shots to get the house right.
Wonderful photos Duane, thanks for sharing!
Thank you for doing this challenge. I really need to get out of my comfort zone and share my work.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/mer3653/sets/72157648296170828/
Lots of good shots there, I like the peony closeup and the cottonwood leaf.
Thank you Steve! It is really tough to share when so many people are great photographers. I just think I am ready to be brave and move to the next level…and challenges like this seem to be the next step.
I know what you mean, it can be very daunting browsing 500px and seeing the amazing work there, but there is always someone that will appreciate what you are doing.
like the landscapes and leaf texture shot!
Thank you..I love leaves! I probably could have made a complete portfolio of leaves.
Darlene, I’ve known that this is something I “should” do. Thanks for the push. http://funkycritzman.zenfolio.com/

I especially liked the one that I believe is a windmill against a moonlit sky. Very moody and mysterious.

Love the ‘Grass in the wind’!
Love the head & shoulder images – incredible!
great portraits!
Here are my 20 photos for you to view at http://sandicaine.zenfolio.com/p94145323
Hi Sandi! Like yourself, until recently, I’ve showed my photos mostly to family & friends. It’s a bit scary to let folks who aren’t already in your corner see them. I like the juxtaposition between the young ballerina and the old statue in one of yours, and the b&w of the girls peeking out from behind the big tree brought a smile to my face.
Thank you, my daughter is often my muse and that picture of her was one of the first ones I took of her when I got my camera 🙂
Wow I miss one day and look at all this great stuff!
It’s hard to pick 20, I seem to want either more or less, but here they are nonetheless.

Pyramid Mountain is breathtaking.
Thanks Helen

It’s really hard to pick, but my favorite is the oriole! A fabulous group of photos!
Thanks Greg!
Hi Steve, wonderful shots indeed and good to read any proceeds go for a good cause in South Africa. Mooi man, hou so aan, there are an awful lot of causes to support here! Groete.
Thanks very much, I will keep it up!
Darlene, thank you for this great idea! Here 20 of my favorite photos https://flic.kr/s/aHsk5cozrB
The owl is hilarious!
Glad you liked it 🙂
Love all the detail on your bird and animal images!
Thank you 🙂
Some amazing images – loved them all!!

That must have been one very long lens for the lion! Impressive collection!
Thank you Greg, it was a 200mm+1.4x
Love the Firebird, I have had mine for 16 years now, not too many of them here in Aus
That’s a beautiful car 🙂

That banana cake looks yummy, and it’s almost coming at you in 3d
Sincere thanks to all !!
Great job sharing then! You have nothing to be worried about you have some really nice images, great shallow depth of field – love this one https://www.flickr.com/photos/127876080@N08/15317706807/
I can almost smell that banana cake! Fantastic photos.
Very colourful and varied…
Love the beached dinghy and the colourful marbles.
Great autumn leaf colour shots
Hi Greg, I love your photographs. I was especially intrigued with number 0271. Felt so much emotion in that shot.
I have a question about the 14 day trial. If I join today my trial period ends on the 25th…just before the deadline for this challenge. Is that a problem? Or should I wait to set up closer to the 26th? Thanks in advance 🙂
Hmm good question. Join Monday to do the trial to be safe. I don’t think it deletes your stuff but not sure what happens at the end of the trial.
I’m also waiting for Monday to start my 14 day trial. good luck to us all.
Oh no! I have already set mine up for the trial; I hope that does not mean I am not able to be a part of the draw for the amazing prize?! Cheers, Helen
Ok thanks Darlene, will do. Yes good luck to everyone.
when does it expire Helen? Post the link here. I wasn’t thinking when I set the date – should have made it 13 days – oops! Sorry guys!
Thanks so much, Darlene. I didn’t even give it a thought, I was just “It’s now or never, girl!” 🙂 Here is my link; any/all CC is greatly appreciated.

I like the billiard shot
Thank you Steve, I was very lucky with the break
Hi Darlene. I’ve been hanging out at flickr for a few months (ever since you introduced me to it when I did your beginners course) but Zenfolio looks fantastic!! I’ve picked 20 of my best favourites and have made a little portfolio. I’ll be back here to give some of these other challenges a go. Cheers!
http://joeaston.zenfolio.com/
Liked your pictures Joe. Cheers !!!
WOW! Very nicely done, great light throughout!
Beautiful portfolio Jo E! My favorite is #19 🙂
Great job, fantastic images! Just one suggestion for you. Change the name of the gallery from “20 best snapshots” to – “Top 20 Photos” or something like that. Using the word snapshot makes them sound like grab shots which clearly they aren’t, you put work and thought into them – give yourself credit.
Thanks Darlene. I’ve changed it to Top 20 Images. And thanks to everyone for their lovely comments here!
I think I like #10 the best
inspiring! my favorite is number 12
Hello,
Darlene, thank you so much for this challenge. I have been teetering on the verge of doing…something…to step up my photography, but have had no idea what that might be; Zenfolio is amazing! I am already sold on its presentation. Thanks again, here is the link:
http://newperspectivephotography.zenfolio.com/
Very nice set, Helen! I especially like the sunflowers, so much detail, great work!
Some very impressive pictures posted already. Some true talent. Here are my best to date – have fun snapping shots wherever I go! http://iurl.no/1yy4n
The winding road picture is great!
The head tilt is priceless! All beautifully done!

Angle on the Space Needle is amazing!
Agreed!
Dan – It’s always amazing to me what people create in an image, very well done!
Thank you!
Having some technical difficulties linking photos to a portfolio; any help or suggestions appreciated. In the meantime, reposting the link. http://www.zenfolio.com/northwestphotographybydanvogel/p116084250/edit
Re-post. http://www.zenfolio.com/northwestphotographybydanvogel/p116084250/edit
I am only getting to the Zenfolio login screen…
I reposted the link above. Having some technical difficulties.
We still get the login screen. Have you made your gallery public?
Reposted farther up as http://northwestphotographybydanvogel.zenfolio.com/p116084250#h22040225
Enjoying seeing everyone’s images! http://vampdog.zenfolio.com/p380619380
Thanks for sharing Sara, absolutely stunning!
Some great photos, but the watermark is really obtrusive. I understand the need to protect your images but it makes it hard to enjoy the gallery.
I would tend to agree with Steve Sara. Zenfolio protects your images already. People cannot right click and download them, it’s way harder. So while it won’t completely protect you it will deter most people from taking them. I used to use a larger watermark and have actually stopped using any at all for the reason Steve mentioned. I want people to enjoy my image and if I do put a mark or logo on it, then it’s just more like my signature to identify I took it not a “DON’T STEAL THIS” big in your face. You have nice images, we want to enjoy them.
I hope that I am doing this correctly.

Yes it worked here, someone has already commented on it so we can see the link fine. Sometime the disqus system delays posting things and links tend to set off flags until it’s checked.
Thank you
Worth a try …

You’ve been at this for awhile – really impressive!
Nice work! I love the variety of image content! sky016ab-019 is one of my favorites: It has great colour saturation.
Thanks Mark, Shot during the Monsoon season.
Thanks for the inspiration! http://northwestphotographybydanvogel.zenfolio.com/p138188319
Would be great to see Captions on the Squirrel photo ” Wanna be in da picture …”
will have to come up with something..
Open contest 🙂
I’m “calling a friend” . Posted to my FB page. We’ll see who comes up with the best one.
Look forward to that !
Thanks for the suggestion Darlene. It was more difficult that I thought reducing the selection to 20 photos and I may need to fine-tune the selection some more. Regards, Don
http://www.dpb-photos.com/2014-Photos/My-Best-Twenty/
Great shot of the path – nice line of sight
Beautiful scenic images!
I like the Niagara Falls and the blood-red sunset
Steve, I can see why you found it hard to pick twenty, given the quality of your photos. I love all, but especially the one titled “Pyramid Mountain” – great composition.
Thanks Don!
Excellent! I need this! Thanks Darlene!
There are some amazing photographers here. I am very much a novice – here is my site http://helendelaney.zenfolio.com/group
Loved the Lizard …
Love the light and clarity in all your shots!
Thank You Joe
Waterfall lighting is amazing – what a shot!
Thank you so much Paul. I took this on the first anniversary of my Mum’s passing – it was a beautiful place for reflection and I like to think that the beautiful light was her being there with me.
I like #18 the city reflection the best
Thank you for your kind words Steve. That was taken on my first night photo shoot – I think my ISO setting was a little high – live and learn.
My photo are very backyard compared to what I’ve just seen
Right, so remember rule #1 is not to compare yourself to other people. Compare your work to photos you took a year ago – have you improved? If so then you’re going in the right direction. It’s not a contest for best photo so keep that in mind.
Super Cool!! I just created my Zenfolio site and uploaded 20 images. My site address is: http://highlanddesignsbymtallen.zenfolio.com/
Yep !!! Super …
Thank you Ponappa!
Great BW of the farm
Thanks Paul! One of our favorite places to snowshoe.

Thanks Steve! They were a delightful surprise to come across on my hike.
A love of variety has been my teacher. I am still learning and have yet to find a favorite style. http://redfoxphotography.zenfolio.com/

Elle – I love your style!
Really like the mug with the shaped bokeh
variety indeed, a great collection…..
Hi there
Here’s my contribution, mostly from the bottom end of the world.
Only started photography when pension time came, so this is how an ‘old’ man sees things around him without being an expert.

Best wishes from Pretoria.

Awesome!!! Totally excited about these upcoming challenges! I might not be able to participate on the one for this month since I am going on a trip but, can’t wait what the next challenge will be! Good luck to all participants and looking forward to what I’ll be learning from this experience! Woohoo! ;D
Love the enthusiasm! Where are you off to?
South Padre Island in Texas! Looking for a relaxing time after a busy trip to Alaska in August – too many activities! My boyfriend is hyperactive! Ha! ;D
We’ve been to South Padre Island. Parked our RV on the beach there
First time for both of us and so looking forward to it! Any recommendations on good places for photography at SP that you know of?
It’s been a while since we were there 2010 to be exact. Can’t remember off hand but you can see my Texas galleries here: http://herviewphotography.zenfolio.com/texas
Thank you Darlene! Beautiful shots as always and have given inspiration for my shots at South Padre, can’t wait for the adventure! ;D
