Darlene speaks clearly. Her words are easy to understand, and more important, her instruction is easy to understand. I like the organization of the lessons and the progression from individual tools to complete edits. Darlene encourages practice by giving students access to the digital images used in the lessons, so we can try to duplicate Darlene’s edits. Overall, the software is good and Darlene is better. Still, there is no magic. Like piano lessons, repetition and commitment are important. I’ll always consider myself a rather lazy novice, yet I’m happy with my improvement and confident it will continue as I complete the course and repeat some of the lessons.

I don’t write a lot of reviews but I felt moved to write this review of Darlene’s ‘Luminar Neo: The Complete Course’.
Some background… I have been a photographer for over 40 years. Lots and lots of images taken and have used many different pieces of software to edit those images. I feel like as a level I am probably a semi professional. I have struggled with Photoshop and other applications that require manual manipulation for every action that is done on an image.
Luminar Neo is a newer generation program that utilizes AI (in a good way) to aid the photographer in making edits but still gives the user the option to do manual edits. All this power comes with an issue for us ‘older’ photographers that are used to the manual controls. Not to say Luminar Neo is hard to learn but power does come with a good bit of change change. Enter this excellent course by Darlene…..
I thought I was doing well with Neo and had used it since inception but upon starting her course I realized just how much ‘hidden’ power was in Neo! Over the years I have bought many training courses but I want to commend Darlene on her ability to teach this course so that anyone can understand it. The people who brag on you are not wrong. I HIGHLY recommend this course! You WILL learn from her. Just do it!

I followed this training from the beginning in order ;-). It’s really a good way to learn and understand Luminar Neo. The lessons are clear, precise and well explained.
Obviously it is sometimes complicated to navigate when you are a user of the latest version of Luminar Neo (1.18). There are a lot of changes, especially regarding masks (copy paste etc.)
These different developments are indicated as much as possible in the different lessons. It would not be possible to redo such a comprehensive course with each evolution of the software ;-)))) So overall it’s very good.
Just also point out that personally, as a user of Luminar Neo, I have nothing to do with Adobe software (Lightroom and Photoshop etc…). I understand that this interests some people but then why not mention other software like on1Photoraw, CaptureOne etc.
In summary, this training in order really allows you to understand the different facets of Luminar Neo. Furthermore, all the advice or pointing out errors to avoid are very relevant. Being French-speaking, I was afraid of not understanding everything (translate). This is not the case, the lessons are understandable. Thank you Darlene for speaking clearly.

The bulk of the learning is in the first half of the course, before the second half which deals with mostly problems, extensions and full start to finish photo edit. I am an amateur photographer and never really got into editing before except for basic editing PC software. In a few words, this course is absolutely, and unequivocally the best online experience I have ever had. Darlene is superb and will answer any questions sent her way in no more than 72 hours and most instances, within 24 hours.
I have been a Skylum user since it came on the market because it was relatively easy to understand and fun to use. It has now become Luminar, with many products, and it offers many opportunities for amateur photographers like myself to make pretty a good image significantly better. With the development of Luminar AI tools and Luminar Neo, it became a more robust program for an 81-year-old like myself to use and understand. I had used Nicole Young’s instructional materials to initially help move me further along the line for understanding but I was still searching for a class that would take me through the step-by-step opportunities offered and through the use of the available tools to create really good photos. I had read about this class a year ago and did nothing, but it came across my screen about two weeks ago when I was having a particularly frustrating day trying to understand all that Neo seemed to offer, I needed help!! The price was right and the next day I was enrolled.
I taught at a University for 35 years, twenty of those years were in teacher education and instructional design. I can honestly say the course, the lessons, and the instruction, the opportunities to ask questions outside the lessons with other participants, the lesson organization, the opportunities for interaction, the illustrations given, and the lesson design have been first-rate. Rather than work along with each lesson (as everyone has the choice) I have chosen to watch and listen and get a grasp of what the whole program has to offer. I will then go back and work through the images and instructions that have been provided and contact Darlene or sign up for a private mentoring session when I hit a “roadblock”.
At present, I am at a point where I have some organizational confusion concerning folders, albums, downloads, etc., and have signed up for a 1-hour mentoring session with Darlene to help me get past the confusion. I look forward to the session because it’s a screen-sharing opportunity, just like a professor meeting with a student who needs additional assistance. While I had considered Photoshop, Lightroom, Elements, and some others, Luminar has provided a robust processing program that would meet the needs of many hobby photographers interested in enhancing their photos without the steep learning curve that might be involved. As an advanced beginner/intermediate photographer, Luminar with Darlene’s instruction and expertise has provided me with an opportunity to elevate one of my many hobbies to another level of enjoyment and self-satisfaction. On a scale of 1 to 10, this is a 20!!!

I did the course lessons on a dual monitor setup thith My Luminar Neo in one window and the lesson video in the other. I would watch a step or two of the lesson video, then try those techniques in the live Luminar Neo session. This really helped to cement the concepts into my brain. I’ll still need to run through this course a few more times to really enforce the power and workflow of the tool and these focused lessons really do work.
This training course is also a great value with somewhere around 20 hours of well put together training. This really is a steal- pricewise.

Great value for the price. Very well organized and thorough. Easy to follow along, great tips – speaker’s voice and mannerisms are pleasant. However, it’s taking me months to get through the videos because of the way the speaker is filmed. Suggestions: First, take off your glasses or redirect the lighting so it’s not reflected on your glasses. Second – change the way the transitions occur between segments that focus on you, as you’re speaking. I’ve been going through the videos using two very large monitors. It’s been a bit painful to watch the speaker at times because of the light reflections on her glasses combined with flashes of transitions while she’s talking.

Teaching is a difficult thing to do because not all minds absorb information in the same way. At first I struggled with how this is presented but I know this is me not Darlene. So I thought about her years of experience, and the knowledge this has given her. Then I relaxed and just paid attention. She is the teacher I am the student. At that point this became a very wonderful experience. She thoroughly explains things in a logical manner and never talks as if she is the most knowledgeable person while sharing a wealth of knowledge. I just finished Darlene’s Luminar Neo course tonight. I have been a Lightroom / Photoshop user for many years now and have a collection of over 100,000 photos. I am currently semi-professional shooting tropical islands, like Hawaii, Bahamas and Dominican Republic. I been hearing for a while about the new Luminar Neo product and was looking for a way to learn it quickly, but thoroughly. This course is a complete and logical step by step process to learn Neo with additional updates as features and tools are added or modified. I looked around for other resources and they were mostly incomplete or scattered lessons rather than building your knowledge in a logical progression. I have been a photographer for several years migrating from negative to digital with enthusiasm. My goal was to take pictures that needed a little if any editing. I worked my way through photo and subsequent Apple products but nothing was giving me the right edge. I followed Darlene and others where I gleaned what I could. I was not at all interested in Photoshop the learning curve is very steep. I thought that light room would fit the bill but didn’t wanna pay a monthly subscription, so I purchased the last version of Lightroom classic. Well I enjoyed using that software I wasn’t completely happy.
And then one day the opportunity came from DPM to have a look at Luminar AI. Wow, that opened my eyes and I could see how I could enhance the context of my photographs from replacing blown out skies to control; over specific items that were not quite right in my minds eye.
But now, NEO came along and double WOW it opens another level of imagination of what your post processing could look like.
But again, I wondered if I could handle the intricacies of learning another software system. Darlene said to the masses “walk with me. I will show you the way” and boy did she ever.
Darlene dealt with all the nuances in such a manner that OLD MINDS could follow and understand. For that I say thank you very much.

Darlene is a skilled photographer and instructor. Learning a new tool such as Luminar NEO AND learning to edit photos at the same time is not brain dead simple. She carefully weaves the editing process in with the use of the tool in a simple, clear method. It is true you could attempt to learn this on your own through various snippets of on-line information but most of this is disorganized without real examples that you can practice on. DPM provides all the materials you need to really learn the subject and of course you will get add-ons as they develop the product. This really is worth the investment. No regrets in buying this course at all.

The Luminar Neo software is an amazing package to enhance your images. Darlene takes you through all of the tools in depth, showing the strength and pitfalls of each tool. After each lesson Darlene immediately answers any and all questions for as long as it takes.
The most useful aspect of the course is where she takes her own and student images live and edits them in real time explaining what she is looking for and what to watch out for while the students interactively ask questions. The recorded lessons and question and answer sessions remain online for you to refer to in the future should you need a refresher.

I’ve just finished Darlene’s Luminar Neo Class. I consider myself a beginner/Intermediate photographer. I have some experience with using Lightroom and Photoshop. The reality is both those softwares are amazing, but much too deep for my needs. In essence I only use a fraction of their capabilities. In a very short time Darlene’s class got me from a person that has never used any Skylum product… into a person that believes that Luminar Neo was meant for me. The classes were concise, not about how great her photography was, and packed with useable information to you up and running in no time. The tools within the software were very intuitive to use.
