Description
In this 3-hour photography class, you’ll learn some of the most important Photoshop basics so you get started using this powerful photo editing tool.
You’ll get tips for how to set up your preferences for optimal performance, how to customize the workspace, learn how to do basic things like zoom in and out, resize your image, etc., You’ll also get an introduction to layers and so much more.
This was a course I learned from in the first 5 minutes I was on the Zoom. Where has this instructor been all my life? What great content and so efficiently delivered. Scottie Kersta-Wilson
This is for you if:
- You are brand new to Photoshop
- You are a Lightroom user but want to understand when to hop over to Photoshop and how to use it
- You struggle with understanding the basic interface
- You aren’t sure where to begin
- The tools are confusing
This is NOT for you if:
- You are using Photoshop Elements or PSE
- You have never done any photo editing before
- You are using a really old version of Photoshop. New features covered may not be available to you
- You are a beginner to photography
- Or you are a Photoshop expert who’s been using it for years
If you fall into one of the total beginner categories above, you can certainly join in and attend this class. But in all honesty, I’d recommend you get Luminar Neo. It’s much easier to learn, with a much smaller learning curve than Photoshop.
If you really want to get a handle on Photoshop, we’ve packaged our PS101, 201 and 301 into Photoshop for Photographers: The Complete Course for your convenience and at a better price than buying all three individually.

I had to leave the live class because of a schedule conflict and just re-watched the video with my own version of Photoshop to follow along. So great to be able to pause as needed and check out the commands and tools on my desktop. As usual Darlene conveys her knowledge with confidence and at a pace that is so easy to follow.

I have been avoiding Photoshop for some time because it seems so complex, preferring to work with Lightroom and Luminar. But after this lesson, even though it contained mainly basic information, I have learnt so much that I even had confidence to tackle a a few things in layer adjustments and masking.

This was so helpful. I have tried to figure out Photoshop a few times when I wanted to do something a little more complex than I can in LR but I always get frustrated and quit. With this class I feel like I can navigate a little better and understand what I’m doing. I’m looking forward to the next class to get a little more information. The bite size pieces are perfect. Thanks Darlene,

I have only watched the first three lessons of Photoshop 101 and all I can say is WOW!! Technical things completely overwhelm me, so every time I have opened Photoshop, I have felt completely intimidated and have never been able to understand anything about it. After Just watching 45 minutes of easy to understand tutorials, I am much less intimidated and feel more confident in trying different things. Can’t wait to get through this course and on to Photoshop 201.

I’m more or less self-taught, in recent years I have googled whatever I need to know and found a video on YouTube. Quick-fix! Photoshop 101 was very useful, I have adjusted many settings and learnt a trick or two. It’s definitely good value for money and Darlene is a great teacher. Will order the next courses in this series! It’s good that it’s divided into chapters, it makes it easier to take breaks – because it’s a lot to digest in one go even for an experienced user. Looking forard to more … Thanks!

I am currently extremally busy but having done previous classes with Darlene, I knew that I had to find the time. I was not disappointed. I am a Lightroom user and only use Photoshop on rare occasions. I don’t use it more often, as I usually get frustrated with Photoshop. I found watching YouTube Photoshop experts often forget that a novice needs slow demonstration and needs to have every step explained, otherwise they get lost. Well, I usually do. As I had expected, Darlene explained every step. It was a long class and as always, we were given a lot of extra time, hence there was a lot to digest. But as the class was recorded, I can now slowly go through it again and practice each section. Thanks Darlene and Rob. Friendly Regards Margret

I have downloaded a couple Photoshop courses and have never committed to sitting down and consistently doing the work of learning. When I saw that Darlene was offering a “Basics” course I jumped on it. I was thoroughly engrossed for the entire time (3 hrs +) and learned so much about PS in an incredibly short amount of time. Definitely the supplied recording afterward will be used to review the information and do my own walk through at my own pace. The initial lesson on setting up Photoshop preferences was priceless when there are so many decisions to make and so little knowledge without having used the program. I have known Darlene for several years now and what stands out about her is her talent as a photographer AND as a teacher. Her style is logical, efficient, concise and appropriate for all levels of photographers. If you miss something, you will have the recording to go back and hear it again. If you are hesitating, don’t. It was well worth the money.

There are a lot of “how to” programs out there – some are cheap and some are outrageous. The programs that Darlene has put together are fast-paced and cover every important point that you need to improve your post processing. The price is very reasonable but the extra service makes it a real value. There is no wasted time – so if the concept is new to you and you didn’t quite get it the first time, you have the privilege of going back with the recording until you understand it completely. She offers hands-on examples that are perfect. Like many others, I purchased Photoshop program years ago but never really understood it very well until I watched Photoshop for Photographers! I’m a believer!

Full transparency: 1) I was late and had to leave early, and 2) I have used PhotoShop for 30-ish years (yikes!). Having said that, this was a course I learned from in the first 5 minutes I was in the live class. Where has this instructor been all my life – What great content and so efficiently delivered. I’ve already started back from the beginning. Run don’t walk to this course and website!

I’ve had the Photoshop program for a long time and have been timid about using it. This workshop gave me the tools to get started and helped me overcome my fear of Photoshop! Darlene is a great instructor. I’m looking forward to rewatching the class and practicing along with the recording. I highly recommend it to anyone who needs a jumpstart.

I tried several times to work in Photoshop and similar programs but always quit. The icons and language overwhelmed me, but Darlene took us methodically through the basics. I tried working alongside her but soon realized I couldn’t pay attention to her screen and instructions with Photoshop open on my computer. The best approach is to watch and listen, then go back to the recorded and outlined lessons to work along, stop, take notes, practice, repeat. I’m finally learning Photoshop and when to incorporate it into my photo processing workflow. Thank you!

Wow, just WOW. I learned so much about Photoshop. My biggest take away was learning about Adobe Bridge and how it can facilitate my workflow, but the beginner level training on layers was mind blowing. I believe I have a much better grasp on how to approach my edits using layers, but will refer to the lessons again and again to really anchor it. It’s great having access to the class forever. Thank you for the time you put into this training. Thanks – Lee

This was indeed an excellent session packed full of information and learning! Due to my prior unfamiliarity with Photoshop, I will need to watch the recording carefully and work with my own copy of the program at the same time. I very much look forward to that!

Another outstanding Course packed with information, so much so that I am going to have to find time to re-listen take notes and try out the many aspects of Photoshop that was covered. Fortunately this well priced class provides access to the recording on an ongoing basis. Darlene is an outstanding instructor and makes every moment of the three hours plus count.
